Pricing FAQ

Got a question about the new pricing plan? The FAQ below answers all of the most common questions we've fielded so far.

The Basics

Q: Why did you introduce the new 6.9% + $1 pricing?
A: The short answer is "to make RegNow more attractive to big affiliates so they can sell your products." The long answer is that we realized that our high price points were causing vendors to use RegNow for their affiliate sales, but other low-cost and low-service platforms for host sales. By lowering our prices, we want you to use RegNow for all of your sales. This will bring in big affiliates who will sell lots of your software.

Q: What's in it for me?
A: Money. Cash in your pocket. We got rid of the affiliate admin fee and the download fee. We lowered the base rate. We increased the amount we pay you on CD and Extended Download Service (EDS) sales. We added free trial hosting and free hosting of creative content. We want to make your job easier and more profitable.

Q: The new pricing looks awesome! Where do I sign up?
A: Thanks! You can sign up using this link: https://www.regnow.com/vendorpriv/newPricingSignup?planID=695

Q: Where can I see the fine print?
A: The contract is online. You can download it from here: http://www.regnow.com/signup/vendor_agreement.cgi

Digging Deeper In The Details

Q: Why do we have to upload a file to you for each product?
A: Part of the new pricing includes RegNow offering CD-Rom and Extended Download Service (EDS) on every order. To do this, we have to have the file to make it available to deliver on CD-Rom or at a later time using EDS.

Q: Does the file have to be an .exe?
A: No, it doesn't. Any file format is fine.

Q: What if I use list, single code, or CGI delivery?
A: In that case, you need to upload us the file and when the customer purchases the CD-Rom or needs to use EDS, we will provide the customer with the registration code that was sent with the original order.

Q: I have a non-software product. Can I still get the new pricing?
A: Only in very specific cases - maintenance agreements are a perfect example. We understand that not every product fits the mold perfectly, but exceptions will be very rare. Email us at accounts@regnow.com if you think your product should be an exception.

Q: What if our product is a trial version that the user unlocks with a key?
A: You will want to make sure the file is associated as the Standard Download file. To upload a new file and associate it as the Standard Download file to an existing product, you will want to visit the "Manage Delivery Options" tab in the Product Detail Advanced Setup screen. For new products, you will want to do the same thing under the "Select Files" tab in the New Product Setup Wizard. The Download delivery option must be selected.

Q: When I try to upload the file I get an error saying, "duplicate filename." How do I upload the file to you?
A: Is your trial version a full version that gets unlocked? If so, we can use that file. Just go to your product's configuration page and choose the trial version (that you've already uploaded) as your standard download file. If you're still having trouble you can email us at accounts@regnow.com and we'll help you.

Q: Why do I have to be site-certified to get the new pricing?
A: Actually, you don’t. But if you aren’t, you will be charged the Affiliate Admin Fee on any affiliate orders. The affiliate admin fee is 15% of the commission earned by the affiliate. Currently, a cap of no more than $10 (or 4.5% of the final sales price) in admin fees per affiliate sale is in place. Site Certification provides a leak-proof environment. Leakage means that the affiliate drove you a sale for free. You don’t work for free, and neither will the affiliates.

Q: Where did these box shots on my order page come from?
A: If you had it available already, we added it to the order page. If you didn't have one already, we created it for you free of charge. It's been proven that creative content (box shots, screen shots, etc.) increase close ratios. More importantly, affiliates consistently sell products with creative content at a higher rate than those without.

Q: I don't like the box shot you made. How do I change it?
A: To change it, go into your "Creative Contents" tab for that product and upload a new image in the 200x200 graphic space. Once that is done, go into the product configuration page in Control Panel. About 2/3 of the way down is the "Order Image File" field. Just put in the name of the file you uploaded. That will get rid of the image on the order page and replace it with a new one.

Keeping the Lawyers Happy

Q: What does it mean where the contract says, "While Publisher may load retail prices for the Products, RegNow is solely responsible for resale prices in accordance with applicable law"?
A: That's legal speak, and what it really means is this: RegNow owns the product for a split second during the transaction process which makes us the seller (rather than just your agent). This language in the contract makes a big difference legally concerning corporate taxes, anti-trust and other legal purposes. If we take it out, the lawyers will get very grumpy with us.

Q: What does it mean where the contract says, "We are permitted to display in any postpurchase pages…information of our choosing including in our sole discretion cross-sells, up-sells, and other marketing…?" Does this mean that during the order process you can show information about our competitor's products on any page?
A: No. We wouldn't do that to you. All that the clause in the contract means is that we are allowed to use bounceback offers, thank you popups, etc. after the order is completed. We would only add these offers if you don't already have a bounceback offer. To learn more about bouncebacks go here: https://www.regnow.com/vendorpriv/doc_viewer.cgi?topic=coupons. To add one yourself, go here: https://www.regnow.com/vendorpriv/offerEditor?action=create.

Extended Download Service (EDS) and CD-Rom Sales

Q: Why would I want to offer CD-Roms?
A: Customers love the security of having a physical CD with the product, and they are willing to pay good money for them. You will get 20% of CD-Rom (and EDS) sales, which will actually drop your effective rate much lower than 6.9% + $1.

Q: What if I want to sell my own CD-roms? Why do I have to use yours?
A: Simply put, RegNow makes up for the lower percentage rate by selling CD-roms and EDS. Without those revenue sources, we couldn't give you the lower rate. In addition, by providing all of the CD-roms, we are able to offer better and faster service if there are problems with the CD shipping process.

Q: The EDS is added to the shopping cart by default. Won't that scare people off?
A: No. In fact we find that attachment rates to be as high as 50%. In addition, we see no impact on close ratio.

Anything Else?

Q: I've thought it over and want to go back to the 16% (or 20%) contract I was on. Can I do that?
A: Of course you can. We're not going to force you to stay on a contract that makes you uncomfortable. But keep in mind that you'd be giving up a great pricing setup, plus 20% of the revenues on CD-roms and EDS, and we are very good at selling those.

Q: I have a question that didn't get answered here. How do I get in touch with you?
A: You can email the Vendor Support Team at https://www.regnow.com/vendorpriv/contact.cgi.
